"Ngakuta Morning", 2024. - Ngakuta Bay, Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand


This work was inspired by the morning light across Ngakuta Bay in the Marlborough Sounds, and a cheeky black backed gull hanging around the wharf.


I lived in Marlborough for 15 years, and got to know the Sounds really well.


Now when I visit, it's usually with a bike, and this work was 'hatched' during a ride from Momorangi Bay through to Picton on the Link Pathway.


It is quite textured, and exaggerates the shapes of the Marlborough Sounds landscape, the thick native bush in the area, and the gorgeous morning light across the water.
