INSPIRATION
Another work celebrating the leggy, beaky birds of the Inlet, and telling their story of adapting to 'modern life' on the edges of urbanisation.
There is indeed a tree of spoonbill on the inlet at Motueka. They are funny and beautiful and gangly, and I wanted to paint them this way, in their manky old half-dead pine tree.
I adore painting shore birds, capturing the essence of an ordinary day on the Inlet, with the wildlife, the tides and the light all working in harmony as it does in nature.
My message? Look twice, enjoy the beauty, and respect the fragility of our beautiful coastal habitats.
