INSPIRATION
The fabulous spoonbill! I so love these gangly-legged, awkward looking birds. I cycle around the Waimea Inlet, and always look for them. Sometimes the search is rewarded, sometimes not, depending on tides, and where they're hanging out on the day.
They feed like a washing machine, with their spoon shaped bill under the water, swish swashing from side to side picking up critters in the mud.
This particular work was helped by the use of a reference photo of the foreground bird, taken by Brian Crum and used with his permission.
