You can't not love a poaka / pied stilt with its ungainly long, pink legs!


This bird I watched feed in the shallows of the muddy inlet beside the Nelson Airport. The round format was quite challenging for this composition - legs needing to be vertical, and ripples needing to be horizontal, and having no straight edges or corners to work from.


I adore painting shore birds, capturing the essence of an ordinary day on the Inlet, with the wildlife, the tides and the light all working in harmony as it does in nature.
