Spoonbills on the Estuary - Low Tide - original V Watson seascape painting
[Painting 2 of 2 - low tide on the estuary. See painting 1 - high tide on the estuary.]
Nelson's humble Waimea Estuary is in fact internationally important for wading and migratory birds.
I have the pleasure of living here, and observing the estuary and its fabulous wading birds in all seasons, all weathers, light, and tides. It has so many moods.
Royal spoonbill feature in this painting, they are very at home on the inlet.
I used a palette knife and impasto technique to achieve the textured finish, and brush work for a softer sky and still water.
