STORY
I adore painting shore birds, capturing the essence of an ordinary day on the Inlet, with the wildlife, the tides and the light all working in harmony as it does in nature.
This series was 'conceived' around Christmas time as many of the shore bird chicks started to appear around the inlet/s. Their mums are just as proud and protective as we are, so I wanted the mums to feature just as prominently as the chick.
The chicks start off as a tawny ball of fluffy cuteness, and as they mature they take on their distinctive features and colors. The browny bland chick colors are probably evolution's answer to predators on the sandy shores, as they are very hard to see.
